Question 1

Is MoveYourShed a moving broker?

Accepted Answer

No. MoveYourShed is a software and referral platform. We are not a moving broker, freight broker, motor carrier, or household goods carrier. We do not move sheds, arrange transportation for compensation, set prices, or collect move payments. Independent hauling companies use our platform to find work; they quote their own price, sign their own contract with you, and are paid by you directly.

Question 2

Is the bid I receive the final price for my shed move?

Accepted Answer

No. Bids are starting points, not guaranteed final prices. A hauler's bid is based on the information you provide in your request. If details are missing or site conditions are different than expected — such as blocked access, soft ground, overhangs, skirting, or permit issues — the final price may change. The price you and your driver agree on is between you and the driver. We connect you based on the bid, but we do not set, guarantee, or collect the final move price.

Question 3

How much does it cost to move a shed?

Accepted Answer

The cost of moving a shed varies based on several factors including shed size, distance, accessibility, and local market rates. Typically, prices range from $500 to $3,000. Small garden sheds (8x10) may cost $500-$1,200, while larger storage buildings (12x16 or bigger) can cost $1,500-$3,000 or more. Question 4

How long does it take to move a shed?

Accepted Answer

Most shed moves are completed in a single day. However, the timeline depends on the distance, shed size, site preparation needs, and weather conditions. Simple local moves may take 2-4 hours, while longer distances or complex moves might require a full day or be scheduled across multiple days.

Question 5

Do I need to empty my shed before moving?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it's highly recommended to completely empty your shed before the move. Removing all contents prevents damage to your belongings, reduces the shed's weight, and makes the move safer and more efficient. Your mover will confirm this requirement when providing your quote.

Question 6

Can all sheds be moved?

Accepted Answer

Most sheds can be moved, but it depends on the structure's condition, construction method, and size. Sheds that are built-in sections or on a proper foundation are typically moveable. Very old, deteriorated, or custom-built structures may not be suitable for relocation. Your mover will assess your specific shed to determine if it can be safely moved.

Question 7

Do I need a permit to move a shed?

Accepted Answer

Permit requirements vary by location and the size of the shed being moved. Some municipalities require permits for moving structures on public roads, especially for oversized loads. Your professional mover will have the required blanket permit or speciality permit for them to legally move your shed on public roads.

Question 8

What if my shed is damaged during the move?

Accepted Answer

Damage is handled directly between you and the hauler under their own contract and insurance. Haulers agree to carry their own insurance, but MoveYourShed does not insure moves, adjudicate claims, or pay claims. Ask your hauler for a current certificate of insurance, and document your shed's condition with photos before the move begins.

Question 9

How do I prepare my new location for the shed?

Accepted Answer

The new site should be level, cleared of debris, and accessible for the moving equipment. Many movers offer site preparation services or can advise you on what's needed. Common preparations include installing a gravel base, concrete piers, or a foundation. Your mover will provide specific requirements based on your shed and location.

Question 10

Are the movers licensed and insured?

Accepted Answer

Haulers agree in our Hauler Agreement to carry their own licensing, DOT authority, and insurance. MoveYourShed does not verify or audit those credentials, so always ask your chosen hauler for current proof of licensing and insurance before scheduling the move.

Question 11

Can I get quotes from multiple movers?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely! That's what makes MoveYourShed so valuable. When you submit a job, multiple professional movers in your area can submit competitive bids. You can compare prices, read reviews, and choose the mover that best fits your needs and budget.

Question 12

Does MoveYourShed charge homeowners anything?

Accepted Answer

It's completely free for homeowners. Posting your job, receiving bids, and getting your chosen mover's phone number and email are all free. We take no commission on the move — you simply pay the mover their bid price.

Question 13

Do Rent-to-Own companies, shed builders and dealers pay to post jobs?

Accepted Answer

Every Rent-to-Own company, shed builder and dealer gets 3 free job posts. After that, pay $5 per post, or become a member for unlimited posts plus tools like assigning your own drivers: Rent-to-Own $19.99/month, Shed Builder $19.99/month, Dealer $9.99/month. There is no trial for business accounts. Professional haulers who bid on public loads pay a Hauler Membership of $9.99/month after a 30-day free trial.

Question 14

What payment methods are accepted?

Accepted Answer

Payment for the move is handled directly between you and the hauler — MoveYourShed charges homeowners nothing — most accept credit cards, debit cards, and bank transfers. Deposit and final payment terms are set by the professional hauler; typically a deposit secures your moving date, with the balance due upon completion.

Question 15

What's the largest shed you can move?

Accepted Answer

Our network of professional movers can handle sheds of all sizes, from small 6x8 garden sheds to large 16x40 storage buildings. Very large structures may require specialized equipment and permits. The size limitations depend on local regulations, road accessibility, and the specific mover's equipment capabilities.

Question 16

Can you move a shed in winter?

Accepted Answer

Yes, sheds can be moved year-round in most areas, though weather conditions may affect scheduling. Winter moves are possible but may be delayed by snow, ice, or frozen ground. Your mover will work with you to find the best timing based on local weather and ground conditions.

Question 17

How do I find shed movers near me?

Accepted Answer

The fastest way to find shed movers near you is to submit your job on MoveYourShed. Professional shed haulers in your area review the details and send free quotes — usually within 1-2 weeks. You compare pricing, equipment, and reviews, then choose the right mover for your job.

Question 18

How do I brace a shed for moving?

Accepted Answer

Brace the door frame first — a horizontal 2x4 across the inside of the opening (top, middle, and bottom) keeps the door from racking. Add diagonal 2x4s inside each wall in an X pattern, check skids for rot, and strap the shed down with four ratchet straps on the trailer. Professional shed movers include bracing as part of the job.

Question 19

Is it worth moving a shed instead of buying a new one?

Accepted Answer

Moving a shed is usually worth it if the shed is in good condition and the move is under 100 miles. Compare the moving quote to the all-in cost of a new shed (price + delivery + site prep + demo of the old one). If moving costs less than 60–70% of replacement, moving wins.

Question 20

What equipment is used to move a shed?

Accepted Answer

Most professional shed movers use a hydraulic shed mule — a self-propelled, remote-controlled trailer that slides under the shed, lifts it, and steers around obstacles. DIY moves typically use a tilt-bed equipment trailer, a winch, and a heavy-duty pickup or tractor.

Question 21

How to transport a shed across state lines?

Accepted Answer

Transporting a shed across state lines requires oversize-load permits in every state you cross (typically when the load exceeds 8'6" wide or 13'6" tall). Some routes also need a pilot/escort vehicle. Professional shed haulers pull all permits and plan the route — it's bundled into the quote.

Question 22

How much does it cost to move a storage shed?

Accepted Answer

Most storage shed moves cost $300–$1,500 for local jobs and $1,500–$5,000+ for long-distance moves. Pricing depends on shed size (8x10 vs 12x20), distance, site access, and permits. Compare quotes from multiple haulers to see exact pricing for your job.
